10 Things To Do Before Traveling Internationally- SKYOSKY

1. Make copies of your travel documents-SKYOSKY
We do not plan to lose your passport during the holidays, but just in some cases it is a good idea to make some backup copies: one to bring with you and one to leave at home.

2. Print out hard copy of your itinerary and confirmation
Do not assume that WiFi will always be available to pull your itinerary or travel confirmations – always bring a hard copy with you just in case.

I cannot tell you how many times hotels have made a mistake in my reservation and have tried to overcharge me. Handling hard copy will be in your favor.

I also like to keep my contact information and a copy of the itinerary in my luggage, when it gets lost, the person who gets it will know how to contact me. You can also include this information on your luggage tag.

3. Check for travel advice / register your trip
Depending on where you travel, there may be unexpected travel advice that you should be aware of. Sometimes your travel or health insurance may not be valid if you are a current travel consultant.

You can also register your trip with the embassy of your country so that they know where you are in case of emergency.

4. Call your bank
Before you leave, it is important to call your bank (the number on the back of your bank card) to let them know that you are traveling. This allows you to use your card to make purchases abroad.

5. Keep some emergency cash in hand
Just because you have your bank cards available, does not mean that they will be accepted at every establishment. It is good to have some extra cash on hand in local currency, especially for small purchases.

6. Determine what documents you need to enter the country
Most countries require a passport that is valid for six months or longer after the date of your return. You may also need a visa or special documents to enter the country.

For example, I was required to buy a visa to enter Turkey earlier this year.

7. Check with your doctor or insurance provider
Before traveling, it is best to check with your doctor or insurance provider to see if you will need any prescription drugs or vaccines before your trip.

You may also need a note from your doctor to allow you to bring some prescription drugs to the country.

The last thing you want to do is to arrive at your destination and find that some of the items you pack are not allowed in the country. It can be a seed or a certain food. Check further to avoid any unnecessary interference.

9. Check the weather forecast before leaving
I like to do this a week in advance, then a day before to ensure that I pack appropriately. If it is cold at home, but you are traveling to a warmer climate, chances are you do not need to bring a heavy jacket.

Also, rain can pop up in the forecast which means you will need an umbrella. Check ahead so that you can pack accordingly.
